According to Wikipedia, "An expert system is software that attempts to provide an answer to a problem, or clarify uncertainties where normally one or more human experts would need to be consulted."

When you phone a business you are often processed through an automated call expert system, e.g. "Press 1 for billing, 2 for customer service, etc. Finally when you get a "live" person, most often they are reading from an expert system script to solve your problem. Even when you are face to face with an expert in any field they have a mental script they are running to assess your needs. Here are some common examples:

  • Making decisions to run specific plays in sports
  • Purchasing technology or clothes that are right for you
  • Determining a style makeover that fits you
  • Getting diagnosed at a doctors office
  • Using a dichotomous key to identify a specific plant or animal or object
  • Planning a party
  • Running a role play game

* Research something you are passionate about and create a written script that diagnoses a problem. There should be at least 5 branching levels/steps.
