Inertial Balance
Materials :
rubber bands
(provided) mounted hacksaw blade, stop watch, known masses (100g)
Day 1 Terms: inertia, frequency If it wasn't for the force of gravity most scales wouldn't be able to measure the mass of an object. How would you measure the amount of matter (mass) in an experiment aboard the space station? It turns out that they use an inertial balance, a horizontal spring and pan assembly that wobbles sideways (slower as more mass is loaded). The spring you will be using is an inexpensive hack saw blade! * Start 2 part inertial balance activity (SIM & actual saw blade) * Show instructor your Journal with above 2 part report |
